Introduction to diabetes.

What is diabetes? What are the symptoms and what are the consequences? Can diabetes be healed? This introduction class will make you familiar with the disease, its different types and treatment options.  No medical background required.

Type 1 diabetes.

After a quick overview of the different types of diabetes, we will dive into the world of type 1 diabetes. Did you know only a minority of diabetics suffer from this insulin-dependent type of diabetes? We will have a look at diverse topics like the origins of this auto-immune disease, symptoms, medical disorders or why insulin is needed. We will also answer all the relevant questions like those about genetic dispositions or if type 1 is the most dangerous type of diabetes. In the last part of this class we will go over the treatment options available to type 1 diabetes patients in Belgium.

Type 2 diabetes.


After a quick overview of the different types of diabetes, we will discover the world of type 2 diabetes. What causes diabetes type 2? Can this chronic disease be avoided? What kind of symptoms are alarming? What treatment options are available in Belgium? During this class you will learn under what circumstances gestational diabetes can occur, how and when it can be diagnosed and what the related dangers are for mother and child. We will highlight potential measures to prevent this type of diabetes, as well as the immediate and future measures the mom will have to implement once the diagnosis is established.

Who's at risk of developing type 2 diabetes ? How can the development of type 2 diabetes be detected and prevented? This class is worth everyone's attention: type 2 diabetes has serious consequences ranging from sexual problems to blindness. A no-nonsense, eye-opener class!

Did you know many people are prediabetic and have no idea? Unaware of the consequences diabetes can have, many don't seem to care. This class will focus on early warning signs of prediabetes and proclaim the good news that there's a way out of it.
